ENG - Converting a photo to cartoon
September 28th, 2008
After have seen photo retouch with Photoshop CS3,
In this tutorial we will apply various Photoshop effects to a photograph in order to achieve a cartoon look.
We will start by using this photo:

The first thing we’ll do is make a duplicate of the first layer, which we will be using afterwards.
With the layer selected, press CTRL+J on your keyboard to duplicate.
We will work on this second layer while keeping the original photo hidden below.
What we want to do is get rid of all that detail. So let’s go to Filter > Blur > Surface Blur.
I found that these values worked nicely for the photo used…

ENG - Website design with Photoshop
July 1st, 2008
After learning several things reading the tutorials on PhotoShop CS3 of FlepStudio, it’s time to see how to create a layout for a website.
In this tutorial we will go through the design process needed to construct a simple homepage layout.
The first thing we need to keep in mind is that not all internet surfers use the same resolution as our monitor does, so we need to adjust our layout so it can be seen on all or most monitors.
We are going to choose an 850px wide layout because it will be seen on all monitors 1024×768 and up without the need for the user to scroll the page horizontally.
It is technically advisable to make your page even smaller in order for it to be seen on monitors sporting an ancient 800×600px resolution, but many new websites completely ignore the existence of such monitors as they are almost considered to be antiquities.
Create a new document big enough to contain a 850px wide layout.
I usually choose 2000×2000px documents because I find them to adapt well to my monitor’s resolution (1440×900) and allow for a great deal of content to be placed vertically in our layout.
It also gives me a lot of unused space which I use to display and try out new things.
Activate the ruler on your document (Press CTRL+R on the keyboard) and set the measure to “Pixels” by clicking on it with the right mouse button.
Calculate your 850px and drag the correspondent guidelines to your document.
Whatever you do, never let your design go outside those guidelines…

ENG - Creating website navigation bar
June 13th, 2008
After we saw how to create vectorial backgrounds, this tutorial will show you how to create a good looking navigation bar for your website layouts using Adobe Photoshop CS3.
Inizieremo disegnando un rettangolo con gli angoli arrotondati con un raggio di 10 pixel.
We will start off by drawing a rounded rectangle with a radius of 10pixels.

Rasterize this layer and using the rectangular marquee tool cut the rounded rectangle in half (select the portion of the rectangle you wish to delete with the rectangular marquee tool and hit DEL on your keyboard) so it looks like this…
ENG - Creating trendy vector backgrounds
June 6th, 2008
Hi all !
One more tutorial about Photoshop CS3.
This time we will use Adobe Illustrator CS3 to create vector backgrounds.
After we saw how to use the pen tool, can get into something more fun.
In this tutorial we will go through the process of creating trendy and interesting vector backgrounds which will prove to be a very useful resource when creating content in Flash CS3 and websites.

The first thing we want to do when opening up Illustrator is set our document in Web mode with RGB colors – this is extremely important when working with Illustrator since it’s not as easy to switch between RGB and CMYK effectively as it is in programs such as Photoshop.
Also remember that in this particular case, the document size in pixels is not very important – being this a vector design you can always scale the file up to match your needs…

ENG - Using pen tool in Photoshop CS3
May 28th, 2008
Continues tutorials of Photoshop CS3!
In last tutorial, we saw how to create illustrations with Photoshop CS3.
Since the tool was used pen, probably some of you are curious to learn how to use it, then here’s Edoardo Gioè who writes a tutorial on the pen tool of Photoshop CS3.

Here it is:
As I’m sure you all know, Photoshop is a program with a primary focus on raster images and effects.
Adobe has, however, included numerous tools we can use inside Photoshop to create all sorts of interesting vector shapes and effects.
Before we start our little journey on the discovery of the pen tool, let’s introduce the concept of vector and raster graphics, and explain the difference between the two…
Another great tutorial for Photoshop CS3 powered by Edoardo Gioè.
After we saw how to use Clipping Mask of PhotoShop CS3, In this tutorial we will examine how to create interesting illustrations with the simple use of the pen and shape tools.
Remember to set your document in CMYK color mode if you wish to print it for use in magazines or advertising prints.

Once the document has been set up, we will start to draw some interesting shapes with the pen tool (press P on the keyboard) .
We will drag the shape’s anchor points until we are satisfied by the result.
In this example we will create a very simple wave like shape using only four anchor points.
Always remember that while working with vector shapes it’s usually best to use the least points possible to preserve the smoothness of the shape itself…
